The Alabama baseball team improved its record to 5-0 Friday night with a 5-2 victory over Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Florida.
It was the first road game of the season for a team that was 3-22 away from home last season.
Freshman Georgie Salem went 3 for 5 to lead the Crimson Tide, which broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the eighth inning.
Austen Smith drove in the tying run in the seventh inning with his first hit of the season and Kenny Roberts capped a 2-for-3 performance with the game-winning hit, a single in the eighth inning.
Tucker Hawley (2-0) was the winner with two scoreless innings in relief of starter Charley Sullivan. Jake Hubbard got a game-ending double play and earned his second save of the season.
In five innings, Sullivan held Florida Atlantic (3-2) to two unearned runs on five hits. He had a career-high six strikeouts and walked none.
FAU reliever Andrew Archer (0-1) was the losing pitching after allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits in one inning.
The Owls swept Alabama in a season-opening series a year ago in Tuscaloosa.
Sophomore left-hander Jon Keller (1-0, 6.75 ERA) will start the second game of the three-game series for Alabama at 3 p.m. CST Saturday. Senior right-hander Jake Meiers (1-0, 3.60 ERA) will start for Florida Atlantic.
Sophomore right-hander Spencer Turnbull (0-0, 2.45 ERA) will start a noon CST game Sunday for the Crimson Tide. He started the season opener.
