I'm confused about what my wife and I should do about this, so I figured I'd ask the forum to see what the consensus is.
So here's the situation. My wife had a 2009 Toyota Rav4 that she was leasing from Toyota and the lease was going to be up in December of this year. She's been going back and forth about what car she is going to get next and she had a short list of ones she likes. So one weekend we drive by a Buick dealership and I just pull in. I tell her she needs to start looking, so now seemed like a good time to start. She test drives a couple different cars and absolutely falls in love with this Buick LaCrosse AWD. She likes it so much that she wants it then. I knew that was going to happen.
So the ensuing haggling starts to happen. She needs a 15K lease and after two hours of haggling we agree on a price. Everyone is happy especially my wife. Honestly, I was enjoying the haggling as the Sales Manager had a massive hangover and I could tell he was suffering big time. We shake hands and we head into the finance persons office to fill out the paperwork. More fun ensues when we find out that in the guys suffering he "messed up" and set up the price with a 12K lease. I think "Here we go", but no. The sales manager admitted it was his mistake and that they were going to work it out. Long story short, we got the same price and to boot they took my wife's Rav4 as a trade in towards the lease in order to keep the payments the same. That is great news for us as she was getting close on her total miles, it had some scraps and dings and needed a new set of tires. Win for us I'm thinking. Finally, my wife and I leave with her new LaCrosse and to top it off her payments are less then what she was paying for the Toyota.
Fast forward to today. She still hasn't received her payment book for the car and we are in the second month since leasing it. So I call the Finance company on the lease agreement. They've never heard of my wife nor have any record of her having that vehicle. They tell me to call the dealership. I call the dealership and they state that the paperwork is fine and that the Finance Company has everything set up and that I should call them back because as far as they are concerned, they are happy. Call the Finance Company back and they still have nothing. Nothing on the name, SS#, VIN # of the car, nothing.......
Soooooo, my wife has a free car!!!! My first reaction is to have my wife just put her payments into an account and wait until they figure it out. I'm trying to figure out how this is going to bite us in the butt though. They can't effect our credit as they haven't asked for payment. They can't say we stole the car as we have signed paperwork. What could they get us on?
So, what do you folks think? Keep the car and leave it as is. Try to push it more to work it out? Can this bite us in the butt? Need some help with this one...
