If a Volkswagen Tiguan is tiny as well as a Volkswagen Touareg is great, a automaker might shortly suggest a brand brand brand brand new indication that is only right. VW would be meditative in a midsize SUV to overpass a opening in in in in between a dual SUVs, a stuffing of a product portfolio.
Automotive News
reports that Volkswagen of America CEO Jonathan Browning told a Automotive Press Association yesterday that a midsize SUV in in in in between a Tiguan as well as Touareg represents a ?great opportunity? This would assistance Volkswagen will benefaction a improved ?core portfolio? to a customers. As for sum upon a model, A pronounced Browning was pinched as well as would not endorse either such a indication is underneath development.
With this report in mind, we hold that a series of things ampoule led be on foot to a German automaker. On a a single hand, there is a little room in in in in between a Touareg as well as Tiguan blurb size. The Tiguan has a wheelbase of 102.5 inches, stretches 174.5 inches, as well as weighs 3591 pounds with a six-speed involuntary transmission, a turbocharged four-cylinder as well as 4Motion all-wheel drive. In comparison, a Touareg has a 113.9-inch wheelbase, stretches 188.8 inches, as well as weighs 4711 pounds with a 3.6-liter VR6 engine, four-wheel drive, involuntary delivery as well as 8 reports. Split a disproportion as well as we have a automobile that is fanciful 182 inches long, about a distance of a Volvo XC60. If this pattern does not concede most split model, there is regularly a probability of stretching a Touareg even greater. During a Touareg as well as Q7 share a same simple foundations, though a Q7 rides a spread out height that equates to it has a wheelbase of 118 inches as well as is a outrageous 200.3 inches long. The models in a entrance era will substantially float a same platform, that ampoule led meant that we will see a vast Touareg as well as a brand brand brand brand new midsize indication that fits absolutely in a center of a distance disproportion (newly wide). If story is any guide, a brand brand brand brand new midsize SUVs might take up a same niche due by VW Magellan judgment in 2002, that boasted 6 seats as well as a stretched, carried wagon-like appearance. VW additionally has a trump card: a Passat Alltrack. The 188-inch all-terrain car would be an doubtful preference to overpass a opening in in in in between a Tiguan as well as Touareg, though it?s regularly a possibility. In VW has voiced no skeleton to exercise a indication for a states. If a mid-size SUV or Passat Alltrack not win, do not order out a U.S. public line to do so. VW Chattanooga, Tennessee plant can have up to 170,000 per year Passat (after VW not long ago combined 1,000 workers to a list), though one more investment ampoule led enlarge sum genius to 250,000 units. What do we consider of a brand brand brand brand new indication ? VW should go midsize SUV, a Passat taken up, or dont think about it all

Current focus of veterinary medical profession leaves research, food security, public health needs underservedPublic release date: 30-May-2012 [ | E-mail | Share ]

WASHINGTON Without immediate action, a new National Research Council report warns, the academic veterinary community could fail to prepare the next generation of veterinarians for faculty teaching and research positions as well as for jobs in state diagnostic laboratories, federal research and regulatory agencies, and the pharmaceutical and biologics industry. Although the supply of veterinarians is growing, more than half of veterinary students seek training in companion animal or pet medicine. In addition, increasing debt from veterinary education may inhibit graduates from pursuing Ph.D. training that would prepare them for academic careers, key jobs in the public sector, and some positions in industry.
Cost-cutting measures at universities have adversely affected the ability of colleges and schools of veterinary medicine to hire faculty in less popular fields of veterinary medicine and to support graduate research training. A potential shortage of professionals with training beyond a Doctor of Science in Veterinary Medicine could impact the supply of veterinarians to fill jobs overseeing and enforcing food safety and animal health standards, conducting research in human drug development and advances in pet health, and participating in wildlife and ecosystem management, infectious disease control, biosecurity, and agro-terrorism prevention.
"Companion animal medicine and its growing number of specialties that improve the health and lives of pets has been a success story, but it dominates veterinary schools' curriculum and resources, sometimes to the detriment of equally critical fields," said Alan Kelly, emeritus professor of pathology and pathobiology at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania and chair of the committee that wrote the report. "We must ensure that schools train qualified veterinarians in sync with the diverse and growing array of societal needs."
For example, food-animal production is changing dramatically in the U.S. and abroad. Large U.S. producers need veterinary services to focus on "herd health" while small producers, who have difficulty collectively supporting a full-time veterinarian, need primary animal care. Having fewer veterinarians in rural areas raises concerns about the level of animal disease surveillance in the field, which is critical to the prompt detection of outbreaks with potentially massive economic consequences.
In developing countries, where meat demand is growing, crowding animals in hot, humid conditions places the health of animals, humans, and ecosystems at risk and is unsustainable. "The fact that 60 percent of all infectious diseases in humans are of animal origin and 75 percent of emerging infectious diseases in the last decade arose from animals underscores the importance of maintaining expertise in other areas of veterinary medicine," explained Kelly.
Addressing these challenges depends on the profession's commitment to promote and develop diverse career paths in veterinary medicine and on the efficient delivery of veterinary services, which in some cases may mean using veterinary technicians to extend the field's reach. The report's recommendations center on partnerships among professional veterinary organizations, academia, industry, and government. These groups could form a national consortium or committee to focus on the economic sustainability of the profession in all sectors of service, education, and research, and develop a national veterinary curriculum that could be delivered electronically or through alternative measures.
Veterinary medical organizations and the deans of veterinary colleges could work to increase the profession's visibility, standing, and potential to address global food security, says the report. Establishing a health-oriented think tank with the goal of advancing sustainable food-animal husbandry practices, welfare policies, ecosystem health standards, and the capacity of the veterinary profession in the developing world is important and could help future generations of veterinarians collaborate across professions, disciplines, and cultures. A part of this body could also evaluate the competencies required of U.S. veterinary graduates to address the global challenges of food and water safety and security, the impact of urbanization on food supply systems, and the health of wildlife and ecosystems.

An anonymous reader writes "The BBC has an article about scientists at NASA who believe that they have found a new test that can detect osteoporosis earlier than existing tests. Their test involved having healthy volunteers confined to bed rest for 30 days; 'the technique was able to detect bone loss after as little as one week of bed rest.' Bone loss is an issue for astronauts as well as people affected by osteoporosis. They expect this test will help detect bone loss as a symptom of osteoporosis, but have not yet done a trial to confirm this. This is another point against anyone who claims NASA, and going to space in general, is a complete waste of money."

Students continuing their education after college are likely to find that they will be financing graduate school themselves. No worries ? there are a number of resources available to finance a graduate education. Most grad students get financial help in the way of fellowships, employer tuition reimbursement, loans that are private or federal and teaching or research positions at the school they are attending. Countless graduate students use a combination of these kinds of financial aid.
Grants and Fellowships
Fellowships and grants are sought after financial award that do not require or ask for repayment. Usually they are offered by a school, an organization or even the federal government. They cover complete or partial tuition and may include an allowance for living expenses. Generally they are given based on a combination of academic merit and financial need. Often, grants and fellowships are used to attract a specific demographic such as women or minorities.
Teaching Assistant Positions
Some graduate students are employed as Teaching Assistants or TAs. Working about 20 hours per week during the academic year they are paid in the form of financial aid. A TA may lead discussion groups and lab sections of undergraduate courses taught by the school?s faculty.
Research Assistants
A research assistant is usually found in in scientific and engineering fields. These positions have a graduate student work on a research project. As compensation the student gets paid tuition and a stipend for living expenses.
Employer Tuition Reimbursement
A large number of employer offer full or partial tuition reimbursement for their employees attending graduate school. Check with your company?s Human Resources department to find out if they offer tuition support and what the conditions of that support are.

Work-study programs provide part-time jobs for students who are enrolled in graduate school. Whenever possible, the work involves community service or is related to the student?s field of study.
Federal Graduate Student Loans
Graduate students who can prove financial need can be eligible to apply for federal loans. Depending on need the loan can be subsidized. If it is a subsidized federal loan interest does not begin to accrue until the loan repayment starts. Unsubsidized federal loans accrue interest from the time the money is first loaned to the student. There are three kinds of federal loans for graduate students:
Stafford Loans
Perkins Loans ? administered by the school
PLUS Loans
Loan Forgiveness Programs
Graduate students can have their federal loans forgiven if they work in public service or for a non-profit organization. This is a great option for financing a graduate degree. These programs are sponsored by schools, state government and the federal government. In return for working a specific length of time following graduation a student gets a fixed percentage of loan repayment.
Private Loans
Private loans should be the last resort for financing graduate school education. They have higher interest rates and usually begin to accrue interest while the student is at graduate school.
It took eight years and multiple tests, trace-backs and interviews with sick owners of fuzzy chicks, but federal health officials say they?ve finally clamped down on an outbreak of salmonella infections traced to live, mail-order poultry.

A Monster.com survey finds employers and veterans agree: Departing military personnel have civilian job skills. Language, however, is a problem. One hurdle is translating military jargon.
By Mary Wiltenburg,?Contributor / May 30, 2012
Krista Titus, coordinator for the Employment Resource Center at the Arizona National Guard Papago base, 5636 E. McDowell Road, prepares to look through some of the more than 1,300 applications of military veterans inside the white folders who are looking for jobs, on May 1.

Veterans today are having a harder time finding jobs than most Americans ? but why??They leave the military with sought-after skills.?Most are willing to move for the right job.?Employers who hire them overwhelmingly say they?re glad they did.?
So what?s the problem??In April, Monster.com, the world?s largest job-search site, and its subsidiary Military.com, the biggest online resource for current and former service members, surveyed 900 employers and more than 900 returning veterans in an effort to find out.?
Their results, released Wednesday in their second, semiannual Veterans Talent Index (VTI), found that majorities of both veterans and employers feel that men and women are leaving the military well prepared to do civilian jobs, but badly prepared to land them.?
?There?s a communication gap here,? says T.L. McCreary, president of Military.com.??It seems like the veteran and the employer talking past each other, at times.?
One hurdle is learning to speak with less military jargon.
Take the example of a Navy fire controlman, the person who operates a ship?s weapons systems and fires its missiles.?On discharge, if he sends a resume full of military acronyms and Tomahawk missiles to a computer or electronics company, he?s unlikely to even get an interview.?Translated into civilian language, though, his qualifications could be perfect, since his day-to-day military work was operating, maintaining, and repairing sophisticated microcomputers.?Whether the veteran can spell that out could mean the difference between a good job and an unemployment statistic.?
?There?s misunderstanding on both sides of the aisle,? says Jason Hansman, membership director for the nonprofit Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.
?When less than one percent of the population has served, it?s hard for the other 99 percent to relate to their experience and then be like: ?Yes, this person can help my bottom line.? ?
But there?s a great need to bridge that gap ? on both sides.?Since Sept. 11, 2001, 2.7 million US veterans have served in the military. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, their unemployment rate is 9.2 percent ? compared with 7.6 percent of nonveterans ? and young workers and women suffer even higher rates.?Over a million more Iraq and Afghanistan-era veterans are expected to return to civilian life in the next five years.?
When it comes to dress sense, what's worse: layer upon bulky layer of long underwear and puffy coats? Flashy, barely-there outfits? Or downright sloppiness?
Travel + Leisure readers rated major destinations in categories including style for the annual America's Favorite Cities survey -- and the results confirm that city dwellers fall short of fashionable in myriad ways. But it's Anchorage that earned the dubious honor of No. 1 worst-dressed city in America.
That's no surprise to Dr. Miriam Jones, a paleoclimatologist who has traveled in and out of Anchorage "too many times to count" during a two-year research stint.
"It's not uncommon to see oversized parkas with fur-lined hoods and bunny boots," she says. "And people aren't alarmed when a person wearing a ski mask enters a room." In Alaska, she adds, men sport beards and flannel in the most unironic way possible: to keep frostbite at bay and their appendages attached.
Dressing well certainly has an element of personal taste, and this survey is based on visitors' perceptions, not scientific fact. So, did T+L readers deem your city to be one of America's worst dressed? Read on to find out, and feel free to defend local fashions in the comments.

No. 10 Kansas City, MO
America's No. 1 city for barbecue does not a fashionista make. Kansas City residents are among some of our nation's friendliest, and they can school anyone and everyone about the intricacies of grilling, but it looks like they're lost when it comes to putting together an outfit.

No. 9 Phoenix/Scottsdale
Here's a hint: if a city has a museum exhibit dedicated to the bolo tie, it's not going to be fashion forward. The official neckwear of Arizona (yes, that's a thing) is enjoying a comeback. But sunny Phoenix made the top 10 for spring break destinations -- when attire is almost beside the point.

No. 8 Portland, ME
With some of the most limited shopping options in America and one of its least diverse populations, Portland isn't where you come to try on cutting-edge clothing. But that's just fine because the city slays the competition in other areas, placing first in five survey categories, including best summer destination and best drivers.

No. 7 Atlanta
If the flashy reality-TV stars of The Real Housewives of Atlanta are at all indicative of how the rest of Atlanta dresses, it's no wonder our readers ranked it as America's No. 7 least-stylish city. Hotlanta has one of the highest per capita incomes of any southern city, but as the TV show illustrates and the saying goes: money can't buy taste.

No. 6 Dallas/Fort Worth
Bigger seems to always be better in the Dallas/Fort Worth area; just take one look at the infamously over-the-top JumboTron at the Cowboys Stadium. And when it comes to getting dressed, big hair, conspicuous designer labels and slick snakeskin boots are the norm. "Less is more" is not a phrase heard round these parts.

No. 5 San Antonio, TX
San Antonio is known for rodeos not runways. Take the famous San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, a three-week extravaganza at which you won't feel comfortable unless you're suited up in western attire -- from your head (one of those sweet hats) to your toes (cowboy boots).

No. 4 Orlando
Orlando was voted the No. 1 family vacation destination, so visitors were likely focused on people seen around the theme parks, which aren't exactly crowded with fashionistas -- enduring Disney World's winding lines in stilettos would be crazy. The city did win raves for its weather and variety of hotel options.

No. 3 Baltimore
In a city judged to have fairly offbeat residents, there are bound to be questionable fashion choices. Case in point: the Baltimore Hons, a group of people who sport the '50s cat-eye-glasses look with gusto. Some visitors have their sights focused elsewhere, anyway, using Baltimore as a convenient, affordable base for day trips (ranked No. 12).

No. 2 Salt Lake City
Voters rated Salt Lake City one of the top 10 quietest cities in the nation and praised it for affordability and cleanliness. But T+L readers didn't equate those squeaky-clean locals with fashion-forward ways -- perhaps because, male or female, there are only so many ways to rock a polo shirt.

No. 1 Anchorage
In chilly Anchorage, the dress code leans toward practicality rather than fashion, and many residents teeter through the streets bundled as tightly as Randy, the kid brother in "A Christmas Story." Fashion trends take longer to reach this hinterland, but travelers are happy to make the trek regardless -- especially in summer -- and rated the city No. 4 for peace and quiet.

The Bureau of Automotive Repair said they have seen an uptick in complaints from windshield companies that are operating without a license.
A CBS5 viewer reached out to ConsumerWatch when a windshield company damaged his dashboard after replacing his windshield.
Belmont resident Clifford Quan later discovered the company he had hired ?Elite Vision Auto Glass? was not registered with the Bureau of Automotive Repair.
After filing a complaint, Quan said the company refused to repair the damages. The company then shut down leaving him with little recourse.
According to the Bureau of Automotive Repair before hiring a windshield company consumers should always ask for the Automotive Repair Dealer license number and verify its license under the Bureau of Automotive Repair site.
Consumers can also search for a license under the company name. Consumers should also verify that the business has a physical address.

Topic: positive communicationin relationships ? _____________________________________ Stuck with a negative attitude? Attracting negative people into your life? This 3 part series gives you 3 fun, fast, and powerful strategies to create an optimistic attitude and to bring positive people into your life. Catch up on Step 1 here: Banish Negativity- Step 1 of 3 ? Step 2. React To Negatives By Giving The Opposite Positive Action. ? If you are in the habit of giving out positive thoughts and actions to others and still receive negatives, what do you do? Here it is. Make a note. When you receive an unwarranted negative, immediately give out the opposite to someone else who needs it, in fact give it out to as many people as possible. For example:
?If I receive unfair criticism, I will go out and give praise to anyone who needs an encouraging word.?
?If I am treated in an unfriendly manner, I will go out and be friendly to others who need a friendly word.?
?If I am lied to, I will double my efforts to be truthful with others.?
?If I am ignored, I will go out and listen to those who need a supportive ear.?
?If I am spoken to harshly, I will go out and speak softly to others in need of a gentle word.?
Note that I frequently use the phrase ?go out? in the previous statements. This use makes the point that you must actively go out or seek a person or situation where you can bequeath the opposite of what you were given. Merely thinking it won?t do. To affect the energy systems around you, you must react to negatives by giving the opposite positive action.
