Environmental groups say a ban would protect consumers from the health effects of BPA that leaches from products including some soup cans.

UPDATE 4:23 p.m.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has denied a call to ban the plastic additive BPA from food packaging. The action comes after government scientists found little reason to think people are being harmed by the chemical.

The FDA was responding to a petition from the Natural Resources Defense Council, which called for the ban on BPA, also known as bisphenol A, from any use where it comes in contact with food.

Environmental groups said the ban would protect consumers from the health effects of BPA that leaches from products including some soup cans and water bottles. The chemical can act like estrogen in the body, and studies of animals show that large doses can affect the brain and sexual development.

But recent studies done by government researchers at the request of regulatory agencies suggest it's very unlikely that BPA poses a health risk to people. The body is extremely good at inactivating BPA ? so good that the levels of potentially harmful BPA in the blood are too low to be detected, the scientists say.

The FDA relies heavily on this sort of in-house research for its decisions.

In its effort to review the safety of BPA, the FDA called on a high-powered team of government scientists to help answer several key questions.

One is: How much of the BPA a person ingests actually makes it into his or her bloodstream in a dangerous form?

?

That's an important question because the human body often inactivates potentially dangerous chemicals like BPA as they pass through the intestine and liver.

Once that happens, the chemical is no longer a health risk because it's no longer "bioactive," says Justin Teeguarden, a toxicologist and senior research scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Lab in Richland, Wash.

So with BPA, he says, "you may be exposed to relatively large amounts in the diet. But what matters most is how much of the bioactive form actually reaches your blood and your tissues."

Teeguarden studied 20 men and women who spent a day on a diet loaded with BPA from canned foods and juice in plastic containers. He wanted to know how much bioactive BPA would end up in their blood.

The answer: not enough to measure. "If it is present it is below our limit of detection," Teeguarden says.

Some studies that have found quite high levels of BPA in the blood, Teeguarden says. But he questions whether those results are reliable.

The reason is that to get blood levels that high,a person would have to ingest hundreds or thousands of times more BPA than people typically get in their diet.

"The question is, where did that bioactive BPA come from?" Teeguarden says. And he says one likely answer is that the chemical got into blood samples accidentally sometime after they were drawn from a person's body.

"Contamination is a common problem," Teeguarden says. "We observed it in our own study, but because we were monitoring for it we were able to overcome that particular problem."

The studies that found high levels of bioactive BPA in blood used samples collected in hospitals or doctors' offices, not research settings, Teeguarden says. And those studies did not include a common test to detect contamination.

Another big BPA question for the FDA is whether the chemical poses a special risk to newborn children.

So the agency asked Dan Doerge, a research chemist, to investigate. Doerge works at the FDA's National Center for Toxicological Research in Arkansas.

He studied newborn mice, rats and monkeys because it would have been unethical to use human babies.

In one study, Doerge looked to see whether a lot of BPA was getting into breast milk. His conclusion: "The transfer from mother into milk is extremely low."

In another study, he asked whether it's likely that human newborns are less able than adults to make BPA harmless by inactivating it.

He knew that was the case for newborn rats and mice. More toxic BPA does reach their bloodstream.

But monkeys are a much better indicator of what's happening with human babies.

And Doerge found that newborn monkeys had no trouble inactivating BPA. Levels in their bodies were about a 10th as high as in mice and rats because "they have a greater metabolic capacity to detoxify BPA than do either of the rodent species."

The studies by Doerge, Teeguarden and other government scientists weren't intended to prove that BPA is safe.

But the results do add some important context to the debate about BPA, Doerge says.

"It makes you think that this would have to be an extraordinarily potent compound to be causing effects at the really low levels that humans are exposed to," he says.

But many companies worried about BPA's bad image have already started using alternative chemicals in a wide range of products, especially those intended for kids.

These chemicals may be safe ? but they haven't been scrutinized the way BPA has.

Consider Investing In Profitable Travel Franchises

Franchising has become a popular strategy towards starting and owning new businesses without having to reinvent the wheel. Franchising business opportunities are available in almost every industry. If your skills, experiences, mindset and interests have anything to do with travel, then you might consider buying a travel franchise. One of the proven Home Based Business?models is based on travel business sites, each for a specific destination providing information covering things like beaches, restaurants, rentals, lodgings, resorts, local foods, cultural festivals, tour packages and so on. You get a site fully developed to focus on a particular destination so that you can benefit from the proven business model and the strategies that make it work. This is after signing a franchise agreement with terms specifying the amount of the initial investment, royalty fees and the support you will get especially on advertising.
The travel industry is one that is known to flourish and therefore numerous Franchises for Sale?are available. However, just like in any other industry you have to understand the underlying business model of each franchise opportunity before you put your money there. The travel industry is big and therefore these franchise opportunities are offered by different companies meaning their business models are based on different strategies. Make your choices wisely and if need be consult experts in franchising especially with a bias on travel industry. Most importantly, it still takes your efforts and hard work to make a franchise you have bought succeed. The franchise network works closely with each franchisee to increase returns.

Business Coach Asks the Hard Questions - NYTimes.com

In my last post, Susan Martin, a business coach, pressed Alexandra Mayzler to articulate her vision for her company, Thinking Caps Tutoring. Ms. Mayzler was clear that she wanted to see a ?revolution in education? that elevated the importance of study skills. She was less clear, however, about what role her company might play in this revolution.

Next, Ms. Martin turned to Susan Parker, who owns Bari Jay, which makes and sells bridesmaid and prom dresses. ?My vision is much shorter than Alexandra?s,? Ms. Parker said. ?I just want to have more control over my manufacturing.?

?Let?s take it one step further,? Ms. Martin responded. ?If you had more control, what would that allow you to do??

?To grow the way I want to grow,? Ms. Parker said. ?Right now, I?m so dependent on how many dresses I can get made and where and how that I?m constantly worried.? Last year, she said, Bari Jay grew so quickly that she wondered if its success would lead to its demise. ?If people can?t get the dresses they ordered, they?re not going to want to do business with you,? she said. Things worked out in the end and have improved this year, but looking ahead, Ms. Parker believes manufacturing in Asia, where prices are rising, will become increasingly challenging. ?If you push them too much, either with delivery or price, then you sacrifice on quality,? she said, ?and that?s one thing we?re trying not to do.?

Ms. Parker hired a consultant to help Bari Jay explore other options. ?I?m looking into domestic production again, but I?m still unionized, which makes it difficult,? she said. If Bari Jay manufactures its dresses in the United States, it must use union factories, an expensive proposition. ?On top of that, the U.S. doesn?t really have the skilled workers anymore,? she said. Still, Ms. Parker is speaking with union representatives to see what is possible, and her consultant is trying to find suitable union factories.

Central America, which her consultant suggested, is also under consideration. She asked him to research it, and get back to her. Ms. Parker said someone suggested Bari Jay build its own factory. ?I?m like, O.K., that sounds really expensive and really difficult,? she said. ?But get me information and I?ll look into it.? Ms. Parker feels the issue is in good hands and the process has just begun.

Ms. Martin asked how things would change for Bari Jay if its manufacturing woes disappeared.

Ms. Parker said she envisioned no major changes. She loves Bari Jay?s business model, which focuses on selling through smaller boutiques as opposed to department stores that take a greater chunk of the profit. ?I want to grow, but keep my margins the same,? she said.

In a perfect world,?Ms. Martin asked, how would your role change?

Ms. Parker said it probably wouldn?t change either. As a result of their work with their own business coach (not Ms. Martin), Ms. Parker said she and her sister, a co-owner, were seeing the big picture more and had mostly freed themselves from the compulsion to micromanage their employees. To the extent Ms. Parker keeps a hand in certain day-to-day tasks, she said, ?It?s because I?m a control freak and I like those things.?

Turning to Jessica Johnson, Ms. Martin asked her to share her vision for her company, Johnson Security Bureau.

?My vision is more long-term,? said Ms. Johnson. ?I want to have something that I can pass on to my children ? I don?t have any children yet ? and that they would want to be involved with.?

Like Ms. Parker, Ms. Johnson is pleased with developments at her business and would like to continue growing. ?If we just close the contracts that we?re currently negotiating, we?ll double last year?s sales,? she said. Just as they did from 2010 to 2011.

?Nice job,? said Ms. Mayzler.

But Ms. Johnson isn?t complacent. Because Johnson Security waits 30 to 90 days for payment on various contracts, it is exploring ways to bring in money faster. The company could, for example, offer training, product sales, or consulting services, in addition to traditional security services.

?What?s your biggest challenge?? Ms. Martin asked.

?Talent development,? Ms. Johnson said, without hesitation. Even though the skills required of security guards are very basic, many candidates lack them. Most of her employees have neither high school diplomas, nor G.E.D.s. ?Similar to what Alexandra said, our education system isn?t preparing people to have basic skills,? she said. ?So, we?re expected as employers to train the workforce.?

The security industry is also dogged by low expectations. Ms. Johnson said her customers self select to a degree, but it?s common for companies to balk at paying more than $8-an-hour for security guards. ?If you want someone that is going to be alert, and able to write reports and speak intelligently, you?re going to have to pay that person more,? she said. ?If you don?t want to pay for it, then I?m not going to do business with you. There are 400 other companies you can deal with.?

?What have you done to address these issues so far?? Ms. Martin asked.

?We just try to stay very hands-on with clients, and over-communicate with them,? Ms. Johnson said. She recently visited one who was impressed that she made the effort. No matter how busy she gets, Ms. Johnson said, these visits are important because they help her understand her clients? businesses and let them know she cares. ?They know there?s a difference,? she said. ?For those who aren?t there yet, as my grandmother would say, you just have to keep loving on them until they get it.?

As for her employees, ?It?s a work in progress,? Ms. Johnson said. ?Some will get it and stay with the company and those who don?t will leave ? churn and burn.?

Spanish workers strike against labor reforms

A wounded protester gets assistance following clashes with riot policemen during a demonstration in Barcelona on March 29, 2012 on a national strike day.

By msnbc.com news services

Flag-waving Spanish workers livid over labor reforms they see as flagrantly pro-business blocked traffic Thursday, forming boisterous picket lines outside wholesale markets and bus garages, as part of a nationwide strike.

Unions claimed massive participation in the 24-hour stoppage protesting what they claim to be the latest dose of bitter medicine Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's conservative government has prescribed to appease European Union overseers and jittery investors watching Spain's debt grow and its GDP shrink.

Police arrested a number of protesters in Madrid, while small-scale violence flared in Barcelona, Spain's second city. Tourists were locked out of the Alhambra, a 14th-century Moorish palace in the southern city of Granada which is one of Europe's great cultural monuments.

The unions demanded a "gesture" from the government to scale back the reforms, warning they could cause more unrest from May 1.

The government quickly said no, and downplayed the impact of the strike, which failed to bring the country to a standstill. "There is no stopping on the path to reform," Labor Minister Fatima Banez said.

In fact, the government will on Friday serve up even more austerity pain with a 2012 budget to feature tens of billions of euros (dollars) in deficit-reduction measures.

PhotoBlog: Workers strike in Spain filling streets and closing businesses

The cuts are designed to help Spain lower its deficit to within EU limits and calm the international investors who determine the country's borrowing costs in debt markets ? and therefore have a lot of say in whether Spain will follow Greece, Ireland and Portugal in needing a bailout.

There were no reports of significant violence in Thursday's demonstration. A total of 58 people were detained and nine were injured in scuffles as the strike got under way a minute after midnight, Interior Ministry official Cristina Diaz said.

Unions are challenging a conservative government not yet 100 days old, protesting changes to labor market rules long regarded as among Europe's most rigid. Among other things the changes make it cheaper and easier for companies to lay people off and let them cut their wages unilaterally.

On the Gran Via, one of the Spanish capital's main commercial strips, a group of about 500 whistle-blowing picketers marched slowly, blocking traffic for about an hour. Police and helmeted riot police watched from the sidelines.

As the group made its way down the boulevard, many merchants ? such as jewelers and clothing retailers ? pulled down their metal shutters or locked their front doors.

PhotoBlog: Spanish protests turn violent, destructive

One protester, Angel Andrino, 31, said he was laid off a day after the labor reforms were approved in a decree last month. The government argues that while the reforms might hurt now, they will create jobs in the future. Spain is by official estimates already back in recession.

Andrino lives with his parents and brother, the latter the only one to be employed, with a part-time job.

"We are going through a really hard time, suffering," he said. "The rights that our parents and grandparents fought for are being wiped away without the public being consulted."

General Workers Union Secretary General Candido Mendez put average participation at midday at 77 percent but said that it was 97 percent in industry and construction. "This strike has been an unquestionable success," said Mendez.

Some statistics, however, suggested the strike had not brought the country to a standstill.

Electricity consumption ? a measure of industrial and commercial activity ? was down by 17 percent at mid-morning, according to the Interior Ministry. That is slightly less than during the last general strike in 2010, which was deemed only partially successful.

Investors are worried about prospects for continued, widespread social unrest of the kind seen in bailed-out Greece. But management professor Jose Ramon Pin of IESE Business School said this will not happen in Spain because people reluctantly accept that the country needs a radical economic makeover.

"This country is in no mood for taking to the streets," Pin said.

One of the strike's most noticeable effects was on public transportation, with unions guaranteeing only around 30 percent of normal service at rush hour times.

"We're offering the government a chance to start a different path (of reform) in search of wider consensus," Ignacio Fernandez Toxo, head of Spain's largest union Comisiones Obreras said. "If not there will be rising social conflict."

?The main airline, Iberia, canceled 65 percent of its flights.

By mid-morning, 402 flights had been canceled, National airport operator AENA said. Minimum services decreed by law ensured that 1,675 flights would operate ? less than half of the average daily amount of more than 4,500 flights.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

'Backpacking' bacteria help ferry nano-medicines inside humans

ScienceDaily (Mar. 29, 2012) ? To the ranks of horses, donkeys, camels and other animals that have served humanity as pack animals or beasts of burden, scientists are now enlisting bacteria to ferry nano-medicine cargos throughout the human body. They reported on progress in developing these "backpacking" bacteria -- so small that a million would fit on the head of a pin -- in San Diego on March 29 at the 243rd National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

"Cargo-carrying bacteria may be an answer to a major roadblock in using nano-medicine to prevent, diagnose and treat disease," David H. Gracias, Ph.D., leader of the research team said. Gracias explained that nanotechnology is the engineering of ultra-small machines and other devices. These devices generally lack practical self-sustaining motors to move particles of medication, sensors and other material to diseased parts of the body. So why not attach such cargo to bacteria, which have self-propulsion systems, and have them hike around the human body?

"Currently, it is hard to engineer microparticles or nanoparticles capable of self-propelled motion in well-defined trajectories under biologically relevant conditions," Gracias said. He is with Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. "Bacteria can do this easily, and we have established that bacteria can carry cargo."

In addition, bacteria can respond to specific biochemical signals in ways that make it possible to steer them to desired parts of the body. Once there, bacteria can settle down, deposit their cargo and grow naturally. Bacteria already live all over the body, particularly in the large intestine, with bacterial cells outnumbering human cells 10-to-1. Despite their popular reputation as disease-causers, there are bacteria in the human body, especially in the intestinal tract, that are not harmful, and the backpackers fall into that category.

Gracias' bacteria don't really carry little nylon or canvas backpacks. Their "backpacks" are micro- or nano-sized molecules or devices that have useful optical, electrical, magnetic, electrical or medicinal properties. The cargos that the team tested also varied in size, shape and material. So far, the team has loaded beads, nanowires and lithographically fabricated nanostructures onto bacteria.

Other scientists are seeking to enlist bacteria in transporting nano-cargo. They already have established, for instance, that large numbers of bacteria -- so-called "bacterial carpets" -- can move tiny objects. Gracias' research focuses on attaching one piece of cargo to an individual bacterium, rather than many bacteria to much larger cargo. The bacteria, termed "biohybrid devices," can still move freely, even with the cargo stuck to them.

"This is very early-stage exploratory research to try and enable new functionalities for medicine at the micro- and nanoscale by leveraging traits from bacteria," explained Gracias. "Our next steps would be to test the feasibility of the backpacking bacteria for diagnosing and treating disease in laboratory experiments. If that proves possible, we would move on to tests in laboratory mice. This could take a few years to complete."

LG unveils flexible plastic e-paper display, aims for European launch next month

Image
LG has made no secret of its fondness for flexible e-paper, but those dreams became a reality today, with the announcement of a six-inch display that promises to "revolutionize the e-book market." The malleable plastic display sports a resolution of 1024 x 768 and can bend at an angle of up to 40 degrees. At just 0.7 millimeters thick, it's about one-third thinner than similarly-specced glass displays, and weighs in at 14 grams -- about half the weight of its glassy competition. LG also claims that the display is super durable, as evidenced by a series of successful drop tests from a height of 1.5 meters. The plan going forward is to supply the display to ODMs in China, in the hopes of bringing final products to Europe by "the beginning of next month." For more details, check out the full press release after the break.

The Most Effective Muscle And Strength Building Tips | health ...

Everyone is capable of increasing their muscle mass. While you may think you?re incapable, everyone can use simple techniques to build muscle mass. You simply need to have good information and proper technique. Here are some tips on building muscle effectively.

Pay attention to what you put into your body. Staying hydrated is always important, but it is even more so in building muscle since up to 70% of muscle mass is water. Do not drink too much alcohol. It breaks down muscles in large quantities.

If you are trying to build large muscles, do not attempt it while doing any form of intense cardio training. Although cardio can help improve your general physical health and fitness, it can negate the effects of strength training exercises. Make sure to use strength training the most when building muscle.

On the last rep of each exercise to build muscles, train to failure. By working the muscles you are targeting until you absolutely cannot finish your rep, you will reach the point of the most beneficial muscle growth. Once you can feel that your muscles are exhausted, let them rest.

Consider taking a creatine supplement. This aids muscle development because it enables you to push yourself harder during your workouts. However, use caution if you take any other supplements. Always follow the directions for their use, and only take the amounts recommended.

Make sure to use creatine for your muscle building routine. This supplement can increase the size and strength of your muscles approximately five pounds or so in only the first few weeks of using it. This is because creatine can help you perform more reps with heavier weights. Before you begin working out, take anywhere from three to up to five grams and take the same amount again after working out.

You can get stronger with a strict and effective workout routine that focuses on muscle building. This will result in your ability to lift weights that are heavier. Remember that as a beginner, you should be able to increase your weights by about five percent every two sessions. If you consistently fall short of this goal, figure out what you might be doing wrong. If you find yourself feeling more fatigued after your fitness routine, your body may be having problems recovering.

Try drinking a protein-rich shake a half-hour before you start lifting weights. It adds fuel for your workout without making you feel overly full. Try mixing protein powder into yogurt or low fat milk to make a shake.

If you are trying to build up muscle mass, be sure to get plenty of protein in your diet. Protein is a major building block of muscle, so not eating enough of it may actually lead to your losing muscle, which defeats the whole purpose behind bulking up. You might need to eat over 100 grams of protein per day depending on your weight.

Switch the order in which you perform elements of your routine. After you have been working out for a bit of time, you might find that you are bored with your routine. This can cause you to lose motivation and even stop working out all together. Make sure that you do different exercises and workout different muscles each time you exercise. A new workout will help you stay motivated and enjoy exercising.

Only exercise three or four times each week. That way, the body will have a chance to rejuvenate. Working out a lot more than you can handle could injure your body, making it counterproductive in the end.

If you plan to, you can indeed build muscle. Incorporate what you have learned here into your workout program, and you will see benefits. With good, correct information and effective, solid techniques, you can be a muscle building success.

(AP) ? For more than four decades, the powerful engines that helped boost the Apollo 11 mission to the moon have rested in the Atlantic. Now Internet billionaire and space enthusiast Jeff Bezos wants to raise at least one of them to the surface.

An undersea expedition spearheaded by Bezos used sonar to find what he said were the F-1 engines located 14,000 feet deep. In an online announcement Wednesday, the Amazon.com CEO and founder said he is drawing up plans to recover the sunken engines, part of the mighty Saturn V rocket that launched Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins on their moon mission.

The five engines, which produced nearly 7.7 million pounds of thrust, dropped into the sea as planned minutes after liftoff in 1969. Four days later, Armstrong and Aldrin walked on the moon.

"We don't know yet what condition these engines might be in," he wrote. "They hit the ocean at high velocity and have been in salt water for more than 40 years. On the other hand, they're made of tough stuff, so we'll see."

Bezos acknowledged the engines were the property of NASA, but said he hoped they will be displayed in museums.

NASA expressed excitement about the find. The space agency said it has not been formally contacted by Bezos and waited for more information.

"There has always been great interest in artifacts from the early days of space exploration and his announcement only adds to the enthusiasm of those interested in NASA's history," NASA spokesman Bob Jacobs said in a statement.

No timetable has been set for the recovery. When it happens, it'll undoubtedly take longer to hoist the 19-foot engines off the sea floor than the 2 1/2 minutes it took for them to power off the launch pad.

The sea floor is littered with spent rockets and flight parts from missions dating back to the dawn of the Space Age and it's unknown what survived decades later after crashing into the ocean.

In 2009, a private company salvaged Gus Grissom's Mercury capsule that accidentally sank in the Atlantic after splashdown in 1961. It was restored and displayed at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center.

Bezos' planned Apollo recovery is the latest deep-sea adventure by the wealthy. "Avatar" director James Cameron over the weekend rode a mini-sub to Earth's deepest spot in the western Pacific Ocean, seven miles below the surface, which he described as an alien world. Sir Richard Branson plans a similar dive to the deepest part of the Atlantic, the Puerto Rican trench, later this year.

Bezos was 5 years old when he watched the moon landing on television and became hooked on getting to space. NASA "sure inspired me, and with this endeavor, maybe we can inspire a few more youth to invent and explore," he wrote.

It was not immediately clear when Bezos' team spotted the Apollo engines. Bezos offered few details about the discovery and did not say how he knew the engines were from Apollo 11. The cost of the recovery was not disclosed, but Bezos said it will be done with private funds.

Amazon spokesman Drew Herdener said Bezos was not available for comment.

Bezos' Blue Origin has been developing a vertical takeoff and landing rocketship that would fly passengers to suborbital space. It has NASA funding to compete to go into orbit as a space taxi now that the space shuttle fleet is retired.

Last year, a test flight went awry when the vehicle became unstable at 45,000 feet and crashed.

American Restaurant Industry Starts to Simmer, Says GE Capital ...

The American restaurant industry is starting to simmer. Consumers are spending more on meals, and foot traffic at establishments is improving, albeit from a diminished base, according to the 22nd edition of the Chain Restaurant Industry Review, released at this week?s Restaurant Leadership Conference by GE Capital, Franchise Finance. As sales trends recover, operators are translating those positive feelings into a greater willingness to invest in their businesses. And with increasingly accessible credit, they?re able to commit to higher capital expenditures.

?The restaurant industry has come through the upheaval of the past several years by listening closely to the consumer and adapting to their changing tastes ? and they?ve done it well,? said Agustin Carcoba, president and CEO of GE Capital, Franchise Finance. ?Depending on their segment, brand and focus, operators have emphasized food quality, service quality, menu options and other factors that will lead to renewed growth this year and in the years ahead. Even better, operators did it all while managing operational costs.?

Consumers spent $406.6 billion at restaurants in 2011. For 21 consecutive months, they spent more at restaurants than grocery stores, and that trend is expected to continue. Last year, quick-service restaurants (QSR) accounted for 48.0 percent of that figure, while full-service restaurants (FSR) counted for 48.1 percent. The QSR category includes limited service, fast casual, take-out locations and snack and non-alcoholic beverage bars, while FSR includes family, casual, high-end casual and fine dining establishments.

Operators? improved expectations can be partially attributed to positive results that were sustained throughout last year. QSR same-store sales grew 3.2% last year ? ahead of the FSR rate of 2.4%. QSR benefitted from eight consecutive periods of growth due to more consistent traffic, while FSR relied more on menu price increases and higher average checks.

?Restaurateurs are no longer in survival mode; now they?re planning for the future,? said Trey Brown, commercial leader of GE Capital, Franchise Finance. ?To capture that growth and maintain a competitive advantage, they?re investing in their businesses by building new stores, remodeling existing ones or investing in new equipment.?

The level of liquidity available in the restaurant space continues to improve. Merger and acquisition activity ? an indicator of the popularity of the restaurant industry among investors ? increased last year. Total syndicated volume in the restaurant space increased more than 26% to almost $12 billion in 2011. Strategic buyers returned, such as American Blue Ribbon Holdings LLC, Darden Restaurants and Landry?s Inc. Private equity firms were also active; for example, Golden Gate Capital acquired California Pizza Kitchen.

?We expect restaurants to continue to be appealing acquisition targets because of the ongoing increases in food dollars spent away from home, as well as the scalability of this business model,? Brown added.

My Pets ? birds and everything else!

I?m posting two photos today! They go together because they are photos of my lovely pets. I love them very much!

The Red short-hair tuxedo Tabby is male, his name is VanGogh ( like the painter).

The Black long-hair tuxedo Tabby is female, her name is Mimi. They are brother and sister.

VanGogh is the most friendly and social cat, he loves the touch and petting of humans. Mimi is all the opposite, she?s shy and cautious, she?s like my shadow, wherever I go she follows me. They are both beautiful and good pets.

I just wanted you to know that I love birds but cats are like family.
